Clean Beauty: Updated Skincare Routine

As I finish up products in my cabinet I have been switching over to clean skincare and beauty. Entering the world of clean beauty can feel daunting and I still am very intimidated trying to navigate labels and ingredient lists that I don’t fully understand. While Sephora has a “Clean Beauty” section, I’ve been warned by those far more knowledgeable by me that there are still icky ingredients lurking within the category. Do your research. In Denver I love popping into Aillea where I know all of the products are clean.

From a price perspective, I’ve found that most clean skincare is very comparable or less expensive to some high end skincare. If you’re jumping from drugstore it will definitely be a shift, but if you already shop a lot of department store skincare you won’t see a change. I’ve been more motivated to start with skincare over makeup because I know my skin is absorbing the products and I am dedicated to my skincare routine morning and night, but don’t necessarily wear makeup every day.

I’m going to run you through my morning, evening and body care routine, showing you what I used to use BEFORE as well as what I’m using NOW.

DISCLAIMER: These are just personal choices that I have made. Indie Lee herself lives by an 80/20 rule and I think that’s a great way to go about your life. My makeup and shower products are not clean yet. I still get my nails done. I’m not a glowing green goddess. However, I don’t think it’s ever a bad idea to make small improvements to your life when you can.

I’m not attached to any particular cleanser at the moment but will report back if I find one that I’m really passionate about.

Ursa Major 4-in-1 Essential Face Tonic: This is my favorite toner that I have ever used. It’s the perfect blend between a micellar water and something a little stronger. It’s gentle enough to use around the eyes but also gets the job done if you need a quick refresh without washing your face in the morning. It smells herbal and refreshing too.

Alpyn Beauty Plant Genius Line Filling Eye Balm: This is the first eye cream I’ve ever used where I see a visible difference in how my under eye area looks. My eyes look plump, illuminated and most importantly, it plays so well with makeup.

Alpyn Beauty Plant Genius Survival Serum: This serum gives you the most gorgeous glow and smells like grapefruit, perfect for the morning. Serums are a great way to add extra hydration to the skin.

Indie Lee Oil-Free Moisturizer: I think this is a great moisturizer for men as well as women. It’s really lightweight and oil free, which makes it ideal under primer, foundation and other makeup.

Drunk Elephant D-Bronzi Anti-Pollution Sunshine Drops: I mix half a pump of these in with my moisturizer to give myself just a little glow. I’m real pasty so these just help to add a little life into my face.

Josh Rosebrook Hydrating Accelerator: Bad day? Spray this. Tired? Spray this. Hungover? SPRAY THIS. I wish I was a piece of produce that could get sprayed by this 24/7.

Kypris Antioxidant Dew: Your skin just looks GOOD after you apply this. I don’t know other way to describe it. While this product is highly expensive, I do think that it’s worth it and will be repurchasing.

Alpyn Beauty Plant Genius Moisturizer: I love the way this moisturizer feels on my skin. Sometimes I’ll use it in the day as well if I need a little extra hydration. It’s a beautiful moisturizer, highly recommend.

Sunday Riley Luna Oil: This retinol oil is not clean beauty. However, my skin is very happy using it at the moment and I do not want to interrupt my routine too much at the moment. I mix 2-3 drops of this in with my moisturizer or sometimes use it by itself instead of a moisturizer. This isn’t an every night product for me, more just when I feel like my skin needs a little something extra. I love the way it smells and have not had any issues with transferring.

Indie Lee Body Moisturizer: This body moisturizer is pretty simple and straight forward. This was one of the last switches I made because compared to regular moisturizer, this is very expensive, and I go through body moisturizer like crazy. I would definitely repurchase this one again, but I also want to see what else is out there.

Honest Body Oil: I like to mix a few pumps of oil in with my lotion sometimes when I’m extra dry or shave my legs. I like that this one is in a pump, really easy to apply.

Suntegrity 5-in-1 Tanner: I make a cocktail of this and the Indie Lee Body Moisturizer on weeks that I am tanning. If you are fair skinned, I’d recommed 2/3 body lotion, 1/3 Suntegrity. It gives you a beautiful, healthy glow with a bit of color without looking fake or overdone. My favorite part about this is that I see an immediate color difference after 1-2 uses and you don’t even notice it fading (no pilling or streaking). Fantastic product.

Organic Bath Co Peaceful Organic Body Butter: I love a lavender-scented lotion before bed. I used to use Lush’s Sleepy and now I’ve switched over to this one. It has a light, whipped consistency but becomes quite oily and emoliant as you rub it in. It feels and smells amazing before bed.
