Our Engagement Session + Rent the Runway

It’s Wedding Wednesday! And we are officially less than 4 months away until the big day! Time has been flying since the new year and I can’t believe we shot these photos back in February. I’ve been sharing some of these photos over on my Instagram but I wanted to show some more and talk about our outfit choices a little.

First up though, our photographer Cat of Cat Murphy Photography! I found Cat scrolling through the #denverphotographers and #denverbrides hashtag and highly recommend that as a starting place for everything-from your vendors to your hair stylist (also how I found mine #denverblonde).

Cat and I hit it off from the start and her style is totally what I was going for; bright and crisp but with a really airy quality. After our engagement session, I became even more excited for our wedding day.

We shot three outfits (EXTRA) and I love how each of them turned out:

Outfit 1

I really wanted to shoot in our apartment because it’s been so special to us. We didn’t pick out our first apartment together since we were still living apart. Our new apartment is really a combo of us, it’s the first place we’ve both been truly happy, we moved in as fiancés and HELLO WINSTON! We kept it semi-casual with jeans and nice tops.

Outfit 2

Since we met at Iowa I really wanted to take some photos in some Iowa gear. These turned out to be some of my favorites from the day, probably because it’s what we look the most natural in. Both of our tees are from Tailgate.

Outfit 3

Last we got all cleaned up and went to Cheeseman Park. The lighting was dreamy and despite it being the first weekend in February, we had gorgeous weather. I rented a dress from Rent the Runway and LOVED this rental. The lace was so pretty and it was super flattering on.

This dress is the Dress the Population Madelyn Midi Dress. Rent the Runway is a great option for engagement shoots and if you’re going to be a wedding guest this season! This dress would’ve been close to $200 to buy but was only $35 to rent. I paired it with my favorite dressy sandals (Which are on sale!) and kept my studs the same. Jacob wore his favorite dressy outfit with a tie that is black and burgundy to compliment me without being too matchy.

Bridesmaids Dresses

My cousin got married this May and we also did Rent the Runway for our bridesmaids dresses! They do have a bridesmaids package but we rented ours like normal and it worked out great. My cousin wanted a very specific shade of pink and it was hard to find it at a reasonable price point to purchase so RTR came to the rescue. We wore the Badgley Mischka Corundum Tourmaline Gown.

Engagement Session Tips

  • Wear something you’re comfortable in
  • Get your hair done. I got a blowout and felt fabulous. I did do my own makeup.
  • Rent a dress! Rent a BALLGOWN! You get to do these things once. Have fun.
  • Coordinate with your fiancé, don’t match
  • Make sure you incorporate who you two are as a couple so they aren’t generic
