January Favorites 2018

Well, we did it! One month down in 2018. I haven’t done a favorites in a hot minute and had a lot of luck this month with products and fashion so I wanted to round those up. I have an eclectic mix to say the least, so let’s jump into it:

Chantecaille Longest Lash Faux Cils Mascara: Cue the most expensive makeup item I’ve ever purchased. Here’s what happened: I was at Blue Mercury and was looking at this mascara. Tati (GlamLifeGuru on YouTube) is always raving about this but has called it “pricey.” I didn’t know the exact amount. I figured with my new eyelids, I wanted a mascara that would not only help them stand out, but also grow my lashes (this mascara has lash serum and magic to work double duty). Now you see, Blue Mercury doesn’t have the price of products on the sample counters. A lovely saleswoman asked if I was ready to check out and I thought, sure, Nicole! Treat yo self! How much could it be? Surely no more than $40!WRONG! I WAS SO WRONG! At the counter, the woman told me my total, nearly $80, and I just about fell over. What was I supposed to do? I panicked. Put it back? Act like this was a normal purchase? WHAT NORMAL PERSON BUYS $80 MASCARA?! I clutched my credit card as she tried to pry it from my frugal fingers. I smiled through the pain, reluctantly signed my name to her iPad and walked out with the most expensive piece of makeup I’ve ever purchased.

So, has it been worth it? Not sure. Yes, my lashes look incredible and I would say I can build them up like no mascara I’ve tried before. So, it’s in my favorites for that reason. I cannot use this on my bottom lashes because it smudges, but literally every single mascara I’ve tried has done that (with the exception of CoverGirl Clump Crusher). I don’t know that I’ve seen my lashes grow, but the woman at Blue Mercury claims a tube lasts her 4-6 months rather than the typical 3, so we shall see. Updates to follow…

First Aid Beauty Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer: This moisturizer has been on my skin nearly everyday in January. Not only does it smell delicious, it also adds a beautiful glow to the skin and helps prep for makeup. On the weekends, I was pretty much just wearing this, mascara and brows.

Teddy Bear Faux Fur Coat: IT’S SO FLUFFY! And surprisingly warm. Highly recommend, and it’s 45% off right now! You can see me wearing it here.

Benefit Cosmetics Creaseless Cream Shadows: These little gems are being discontinued, but Benefit’s website still has two great neutrals left! I wore this a lot this month as a light little way to cover my scars while still giving me a hint of color and shimmer. They’re very easy to work with, blend well and are nice on their own or as a base!

SPANX Faux Leather Leggings: I know these leggings are all the rage, but they really are worth the investment. They are super compressive without feeling uncomfortable and make any outfit look super luxe.

Lush Sleepy Lotion: I should have talked about this product much sooner. It’s been a favorite for nearly a year now. If you like lavender or have trouble de-stressing at night, this is the product for you. It’s super moisturizing without being too thick and has the most soothing scent.

Olly Undeniable Beauty Gummies: I’m convinced that all vitamins are just placebos, but these taste good and at least make me feel like I’m doing something for my body.

Ripple Pea Milk: On my hunt for dairy alternatives I came across Pea Milk. This “milk” is made from pea proteins and honestly tastes pretty darn good. The chocolate milk is my favorite because, chocolate. It’s a great alternative if you’re allergic to soy (me) and don’t want to drink almond/cashew milk. So far, cheese has been my weakness and I’m struggling to find a dairy-free version I like. That’s February’s goal.
