Spring Cleaning: Makeup Edition

I’m throwing all of this makeup away. I’ll be honest, it’s difficult. Let’s talk about why/when you should throw away your makeup, you hoarder.

  1. Spring Cleaning Makeup 2015It’s old: Some things in the polish that are too old are my OPI polish, Ardell lash glue, Erase paste, and Color Tattoos. I don’t follow the hard and fast “rules” you see on Pinterest as far as throwing things away goes. I think it’s more about sanitation. If you wash your hands before you do your makeup (as you should), and wash your brushes, I’d personally say you’re pretty ok with holding on to things but know when the time has come (i.e. my Color Tattoos are cracking because they’re dry, the nail polish is goopy)
  2. You don’t use it enough: If you don’t use it, why would you have it? Just because you “might” need it for a look one day? No. Throw it out. I’m so guilty of this but it has to be done (my bright coral lipstick, blue eyeliner, Too Faced lipstick…).
  3. You don’t like it: This should be a duh, but I found things I just didn’t like in my collection. If you don’t like something, try to return it, or if it’s gently used, pass it along to a friend. If not, cut your losses and pitch it so it doesn’t continue to take up space (Burt’s Bees Island lip balm, NYX lip liner, Olay eye cream…)

It was nice to clear up some extra room in my vanity. I encourage you to do a Spring Cleaning too! Comment below if you’ve done one recently or if you think you should! 🙂

    Hey 🙂

Wow, that’s a cool post. Reminds me that I probably need to do the same thing, too… I also need to completely clear out my closet, as I haven’t done that for at least 2 years… Yeah, I should really do that soon.

Loved the post, but it hurt to look at that photo with all that amazing makeup…

    xx

P.S: That shot was wonderful. 😉

Hi Dora! I did some cleaning in my closet and then felt inspired to do everything else. It did hurt to throw away but the funny thing is, I haven’t missed anything I threw away, so I know it was a good decision. (I did repurchase another Garnier concealer). Good luck with your own spring cleaning 🙂

        Oh wow!
Yeah, I guess that it’s only hard throwing it out. (physically, I mean) And besides, it makes space for new possible favorites! 😉
        Thank you so much! 🙂

Some things I throw out if it’s weird in consistency and smell. Some things I think I keep forever 🙂

Agreed! I had a Nars lipgloss awhile back and the smell went bad so I knew there were other things hiding in my collection too haha

One thing is sure, if dry products start to have a funky smell – it’s out.
Even if your supposed to change your mascara regular – I tend to use it longer. They work better for me, when they are a bit dryer. ( I knooooow, but I’m the only one using mine)

I agree I like my mascara best at about a month old! I just notice around the 3/4 month mark all of my product is gone anyway
