Liebster: (German Origin) n. sweetheart, beloved person, darling

Hello all! I was nominated for the Liebster Award by Claudia Fox. It was very nice to be recognized, Claudia, so thank you. The award is basically a tag, a way to get to know more about the bloggers you follow and to find new bloggers to follow!

So before I ramble on, let’s get to it. Claudia asked…

  1. What would your dream home look like? Near the ocean, white or grey, a porch, and big backyard for lots of BBQ’s
  2. What’s your main hobby? Aside from the obvious (makeup), I love reading, watching YouTube, and…organizing
  3. Which holiday would you choose – Camping in the country or hotel in the city? Hotel. Easy. I’ve actually never slept outside before!
  4. Do you have pets? No, I don’t. I’m allergic to almost everything. I am definitely a dog person though.
  5. What is your one must have if you could only have one beauty product? Concealer. My under-eyes are rough stuff.
  6. If you were an animal what would you be and why? I know dolphin is a cliche, but I love swimming. So anything that could be in the water, really.
  7. Would you rather climb a mountain or go swimming in a lake? ^^ Lake ^^
  8. Favorite treat/dessert? Sweet>Salty…so this is hard. I really love ice cream
  9. Instagram or Twitter? Instagram. I love pictures and you’re less likely to find TV spoilers on Instagram
  10. Favorite lip product of all time? Probably Burt’s Bees lip balm in pomegranate. Nothing fancy, but if I could only pick one, this would be it. Honorable mention to the Revlon Lip Butters!
  11. Kindle or Book? Book. I love the smell of old books and that feeling you get when you’re halfway through one and the spine creases.

Now, the random facts about myself!

  1. I love having my nails painted but hate painting my nails.
  2. I used to be mildly addicted to Diet Coke.
  3. I am such a band geek and am in the marching band at The University of Iowa.
  4. I love airports. I almost think they are more fun than the vacation.
  5. When I’m really stressed out, I clean.
  6. I give myself allergy shots instead of going to the doctor.
  7. Peonies are my favorite flower.
  8. I like getting ready to go out more than going out.
  9. Amsterdam is my favorite city I’ve been to (so far).
  10. I firmly believe Emma Stone and I are meant to be best friends.
  11. My favorite clothing is either grey, striped, or grey.

My Nominations are as follows

BlondeBeauty13 | MissEmilyMarie23 | Coffee. Beauty. Life-Style | Eat Sleep Chic | The Life and Lies of Sarah | The Nikki Diaries | Mommybeauty | Elese, AestheteGurls and Pearls | A Few Pretty Pastels

My questions for the nominees:

  1. What is one city/country you have yet to visit and would like to?
  2. Any tattoos? Do you want any?
  3. What is your favorite television show?
  4. Chocolate or Vanilla?
  5. Who is your celebrity crush?
  6. What is the one part of your makeup routine you spend the most time on?
  7. You are running late and only have time for either hair or makeup. Which do you do?
  8. What’s the one thing that makes you feel on top? (A red lip, heels, great jeans?)
  9. What’s the one thing you’re afraid to do with your look but think about often? (Purple hair, black lipstick?)
  10. Who is the one singer/band you would want to see? (Dead or alive)
  11. If you could go back in time and teach yourself one makeup trick when you were first starting, what would it be?

So nominees, congrats! Now, it’s your turn. Make a blog post that…

  • Recognize the blogger who nominated you
  • Answer the 11 questions your nominator asked
  • List 11 fun/random facts about yourself
  • Nominate 10 bloggers with less than 200 followers who you think deserve to be recognized
  • Inform the bloggers you’ve nominated them
  • Give your nominees 11 questions to answer

Whew, that’s all! I hope everyone has a great week!

xoxo Nicole

Finals are approaching

To start off, you must first organize all of your notes, random sheets of paper, doodles and scraps that have been piling up over the course of the semester. I recommend heading to Target and buying some binders, colorful section dividers, and page protectors. Be warned: DO NOT get side tracked in Target.

You have now organized your notes. This will make studying so much easier. Now that your notes are organized, your workspace must be as well. Clean your room! Clearing your space will help you clear your mind and de-stress. Plus, you’ll have everything in a little better shape for move out.

You look flustered. All of that cleaning was hard work. Go take a shower! You’ll feel refreshed and rejuvenated.

Getting late in the day? You’re hungry. Go make a snack. Have some whole-wheat toast with peanut butter and a side of berries or a granola bar. Steer clear of sugary foods because then you’ll just crash, and you don’t want to be that person with a sugar high.

Caffeine. You need caffeine. Be careful, though. Too much at once and you’ll crash. Spread your caffeine out throughout the day and studying into the night.

Ok, things are looking good. Everything is clean, you’re full, you’re fueled, it’s go time. So you won’t be tempted to check social media while you’re studying, do that now. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, YouTube, your Tinder, Google+ if you’re really desperate…do it all now. Just knock that out of the way.

Alright, we only lost an hour or three. But at least it’s done. If you’re hungry, now is a good time to go get another snack because it’s been awhile.

All settled in now. Wait…bathroom break.

Your roommates just got home! YAAAY!

Shit it’s late. Well, at least you’re all prepared to get a good start at it tomorrow and you can conquer the world like this kid.

At dawn

I really did try to include some helpful tips for studying. Best of luck to those of you who are about to take finals! Summer is upon us!

Remember when you were so excited that you were finally going to be 10? In the weeks leading up to my birthday, my sister called me a double-digit-midget. I didn’t mind the nickname because it still implied that I would finally have a decade of life under my belt. I wasn’t going to complain about earning that title. Turning 10 was hardly revolutionary but then again, everything seems more exciting when you have a youthful lens on life. It was three long years from here until another milestone came (unless it was your golden birthday in-between) and the promise of becoming a teenager brought new hopes and dreams. Then permits, drivers licenses, and lastly, being an adult! Don’t wish it by! They whispered, but no one ever really listens.

Currently, my roommates and I are dealing with real people adulthood life issues. What do you do when your apartment floods? Subsequently, what do you do when it seems (in my opinion) no one is willing to help you? I was fortunate to grow up with many privileges that I know some are not as fortunate to have. When I would go shopping at a store with my friends, I was upset when I was not treated with the same level of service as my adult counter parts. I didn’t (and still don’t) understand why my dollar was valued less than a dollar in the hands of a 40 year old. I feel this same sense of frustration now. Despite my signature being on the lease of my apartment, along with my four friends, I feel as though I am not being treated with respect and basic common courtesy. I’ve been told, “It’s the reality of the situation” and “That’s just the way things are.” I’m struggling to understand why things have to be that way though.

So before this gets into full on rant territory, let me leave you with a few things I have learned:

1. Enjoy the now. If you still live at home, thank your parents/guardians/the wolves that raised you

2. Do your research. Especially when apartment hunting, make sure you read up on your landlord, the building, issues people have had in the past. Ask around. Make sure you do a walk through of the unit you will specifically be signing for. Ask if there has been, say for example, water damage in the past. Be thorough.

3. Be polite, even when others are not. This is coming from someone with a short temper so I understand how hard this one can be. Do your best to be as polite and sincere as possible, without the sarcasm, no matter how snarky you may feel.

4. Go with your gut. Stick up for what you believe is right and find friends to help you along the way.
